SENIOR SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Job Summary:
The incumbent leads, plans, researches, implements, evaluates and maintains sustainability programs and planning efforts for the City of Whitehorse, including but not limited to: energy management and greenhouse gas mitigation, climate change adaptation, economic resiliency.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees, and coordinates the development and implementation of sustainability programs and strategies. This includes preparing the scope and coordinating corporate initiatives such as the Sustainability Plan and the City's response to the Climate Emergency.
- Conducts and oversees the preparation of studies, research, reports, and plans related to sustainability.
- Evaluates, monitors and proposes changes and additions to bylaws and policies on corporate and community sustainability matters.
- Maintains project management tools to ensure effective, on-time, on-budget project delivery.
- Prepares and evaluates tenders, quotations, proposal calls and reports and awards or recommends awards in accordance with the City's Purchasing Policy.
- Lead stakeholder and public engagement and communications related to sustainability and climate initiatives, including coordinating responses to residents, partners, external agencies, and when assigned, media inquiries.
- Coordinates and liaises with City departments, agencies, First Nations governments on a wide-range of sustainability issues. Initiates and participates in City committees and in intergovernmental working groups on key initiatives impacting portfolio. This may include advice and support related to project scoping, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
- Develop and advance funding proposals, including preparing business cases, to secure external funding and leverage investment in sustainability initiatives.
- Prepare and deliver presentations and reports to senior leadership, Council, and Committees to inform policy direction, support decision-making.
- Plans, schedules, directs and ensures, the quality of work of assigned staff. Also trains assigned staff and contributes to their recruitment, performance appraisals and disciplinary action.
- Follows, and ensures that reporting staff follow, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards.
- Acts as Manager of Planning and Sustainability Services as required.
- Other related duties.
